1. FOR HOW LONG HAVE YOU BEEN CROSSFITTING
I’ve been crossfitting almost seven months now.
2. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE WOD OR MOVEMENT AND WHY
Definitely would be the rower – I could pretty much spend all day on that!
3. WHAT IS YOUR LEAST FAVORITE WOD OR MOVEMENT AND WHY
My least favorite is any WOD involving the jump rope – double-unders, I’m looking at you. That’s right…
4. HOW DID YOU GET INTO CROSSFIT
I got into CrossFit for my health; earlier this year, I found myself at a very uncomfortable 285 pounds, and I realized that I needed to do something about it. I started doing some walking, and I passed by the box during one of those walks. I had heard of CrossFit, but didn’t really know anything about it, so I looked it up, and looked up CrossFit Breed, and started up.
5. WHAT FITNESS PROGRAM WERE YOU DOING BEFORE CROSSFIT AND HOW DO THEY DIFFER
I was involved in dragonboating (a long time ago), and lifted weights in college (a long, looong time ago), but aside from that, the most exercise I was getting was from hiking. CrossFit sort of blends the best elements from both my dragonboating and my weightlifting past.
6. HOW HAVE YOU CHANGED SINCE JOINING CF BREED
How have I changed? Ummm…well, I seem to have misplaced about 70 pounds somewhere! I’m stronger, more flexible and I’m certainly more confident and positive in my approach to things. And I think it’s helped me be a better role model for my two sons, since one’s already become a member of the Breed community, and the other’s decided to do the same when he turns 13.
7. WHAT ADVICE CAN YOU GIVE TO NEW COMERS TO CROSSFIT
Be patient and take your time on the moves; listen to the coaches; watch videos on what’s coming up so you understand the movements; be open to challenges; HAVE FUN.
8. WHY DO YOU LIKE TRAINING AT CROSSFIT BREED
I don’t like it – I LOVE IT! I love the community that’s here and the support they bring with them, I love being challenged by the coaches every time I walk through that door, I love that the programming is always changing.
9. DO YOU PLAY ANY SPORTS? WHICH?
Outside of the occasional swim and hike, not really.
10. WHAT ARE YOUR FITNESS GOALS FOR 2016?
Going forward, I want to improve on my oly lifting, since that’s something I never tried before. I also want to be able to finally do some pull-ups, muscle-ups and gymnastic areas of CrossFit, as well as lose more weight and improve my fitness. Finally, I want to be able to do some 5Ks and an obstacle race or two.
