Mia Matkovic aka M.Dawgs has been with Breed since June ’16, depending on her schedule you will find her at 7:30 pm or noon class. Say Hi when you see her !!!
Who are you and what do you do?
My name is Mia Matkovic, I’m 20 years old, and I work at New Balance/New York Road
Runners Run Hub on the West Side.
Describe yourself in ONE positive word.
If you were an animal which would you be and why?
I would be an elephant because they are my favorite animal. They’re very cute and are
herbivores (almost) like me!
How did you get to Breed?
My high school track coach introduced me to Crossfit in high school and I immediately
fell in love. Then my BFF Dominika started going, so I dropped in a couple of times with
her to try it out and signed up right away.
What are some of your good habits or characteristics?
I always have a positive outlook on things. Even if I’m not feeling 100% I will never let it show
because I want people to look to me as someone who they can look up to and rely on.
Do you enjoy working out, Why or why not?
I absolutely love working out because I get to eat so much after! It brings my mood and energy
levels up so I’m more productive outside the gym too.
What superpowers would you have liked to have? Why?
I wish I could teleport so I would get to see my family back home more than once a year.
Make a list of 5 things you are grateful for:
-My family, friends, and swole mates
Who or what inspires you?
There are a couple of people that inspire me in different ways. My parents inspire me because
of how well they raise my sister and I considering they were very young when they had us.
Crossfitters like Brooke Ence inspire me to look beyond what my body looks like because
of how much I work out and to always feel amazing in it no matter what! The people at Breed
also inspire me to go work out every time I think twice about it.
What are you currently improving in CrossFit?
I am working on perfecting my snatch form and getting my first pull up!
How is CrossFit changing your life?
Crossfit has made me push my limits in every way possible. It has made me physically and
mentally tough so when things get hard I can push through it. I’ve accomplished a lot of goals
in the past year that I couldn’t have done without the support of everyone from the box.
What current book or music are you currently into?
I love listening to dubstep/drum & bass for when I’m working out or trying to be
productive, and trance music for long runs. I also just got ‘The Alchemist’ recently
and can’t wait to dive into it the next time I’m on the train.
What projects are you working on outside of CrossFit?
I occasionally make YouTube videos, run races with my group from New Balance and NYRR,
lead an early morning workout group in Forest Hills every Thursday, and am working towards
getting my Crossfit Level 1 certificate.
Share with us something we might not know about you.
I once saved a lady who was choking by doing the Heimlich maneuver. I was never trained on how to do it, I was just so bored at work that I would read the poster that was on the wall over and over again.
